Say Goodbye to Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Many premenopausal women suffer premenstrual syndrome before / during / after their monthly menstruation. Often people believe PMS is normal. Actually, it is not. According to the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), PMS is due to unbalanced circulation of Qi/energy, blood, or phlegm obstruction. Acupuncture treatments or Herbal treatments could help to relieve PMS by addressing its underlying root causes.

How to reduce the abdominal cramping pain?

  • Boil ginger, dried tangerine peel with brown sugar – drink to immediately calm down the cramping
  • Spinach soup boiled for 30 minutes
  • Tea from hawthorn berries and cinnamon

How to reduce lower back soreness during PMS?

  • Put a heating pad on the area – this could help with abdominal cramp too

How to handle the mood swing during PMS?

  • Take Vitamins to balance your hormones. You will need a blood work to find out what your body is deficient in. Then get an advice from a nutritionist.

Lab work

  • Allowing confusion to reign: giving power to outside influences; rejection of feminine processes

TCM Psychophysiology: When the following organs are unbalanced, you could experience PMS.

  • Liver – houses the ethereal soul. Maintains the smooth flow of Qi and Blood. Has an intimate relationship with the genitals; and reflects the emotional harmony and movement.
  • Heart – houses the spirit. It rules the blood and its vessels and directs the circulation; It relates the integration of the organs and the personality.
  • Spleen – governs the digestion. It governs the blood and holds them within the vessels; It resolves dampness and phlegm. It relates the ability to assimilate, stabilize, and feel centered and balanced.
